Low oxygen blood flows to the heart through the right atrium. The blood then gets pumped into the right ventricle and out to the lungs. Oxygen is added to the blood in the lungs and then the blood is pumped into the left atrium. High oxygen blood enters the body via the left ventricle.

1. Why does the heart rate of a basketball player increase when they are playing ball? The heart rate increases because you are moveing constantly and the greater demand for energy.
2. How does diet affect the cardiovascular system? What types of food should atheletes eat to have a healthy heart? Diets high in fat can cause high cholesterol and high blood pressure and athelets need alot of energy.
3. How does substace abuse affect the heart? Why is this bad for the athlete ? it thickins the muscle of the heart harder for it to beat and hard narcotics could stop it
